Publishing your course

The final moments have arrived after spending many painstaking hours developing your video-based course in Open edX! Your hard work is about ready to pay off. 🎉 You now enter the "quality control" stage to verify that your course meets the minimum requirements. We fully expect a final draft of your course, not a working draft.

Important documents to reference:

• Open edX Course Structure - Defines the structure of the courses, most of which is scaffolding to guide your students.
• Open edX Course Requirements - A simplified list to help you know if you have placed or developed all required components.

Процесс просмотра и оценивания курса для размещения на платформе open.ektu.kz (открытой платформе ВКТУ)

Пункт "4.5 Оценивание курсов" в Положение открытых онлайн курсах П НАО «ВКТУ» 125-I-2022 детально описывает процесс.

1. Автор курса проводит самооценку курса
2. Бета-тестер автора курса проводит тщательную оценку курса и предоставляет обратную связь для улучшения.
3. После завершения разработки и оценивания курса, автор подает официальный запрос на проверку курса в ЦОТ.
4. ЦОТ оценивает курс и дает рекомендации по доработке курса для того, чтобы он соответствовал требованиям. Все изменения по курсу также должны официально отслеживаться.
5. Если курс соответствует требованиям, которые прописаны в этом документе, а также в ДП НАО «ВКТУ» 041-I-2020 Стандарты по разработке курсов в Open edX в НАО «ВКТУ имени Д. Серикбаева», то ЦОТ выдает справку со своей рецензией, после чего курс переходит на оценивание экспертной комиссией. В случае если курс не соответствует требованиям ЦОТ отправляет курс на доработку.
6. Следующим этапом в процедуре оценивания является оценивание онлайн курса экспертной комиссией. В состав экспертной комиссии входят:
   • ЦОТ. Сотрудники ЦОТ оценивают дизайн курса и проверяют курс на завершенность и наличие всех требуемых компонентов онлайн курса.
   • Школа/Факультет. Члены комиссии с каждой школы/факультета оценивают содержание курса на образовательную значимость.
7. После официального оценивания онлайн курса автор получает официальное заключение с подписями всех членов комиссии на размещение курса на открытой платформе open.ektu.kz.

Course author self-assessment

The first step is to complete the self-evaluation form to verify that the course meets all the requirements. We will evaluate your course only after you have evaluated your own course and revised it accordingly.

Документ "Форма проверки “Открытых курсов” ВКТУ" будет фиксировать вашу историю изменений и оценивания курса, который будет подтверждать, что он прошел официальную оценку и соответствует требованиям. Надеемся, что ваш курс уже соответствует требованиям, если вы заполняете эту форму.

1. First, please contact us to share a Google Document copy of Форма проверки “Открытых курсов” ВКТУ with you.

   Please keep the document as a Google Document instead of downloading it to Microsoft Word or other formats.
   - You can access it at https://drive.google.com/a/edu.ektu.kz
   - You will share this document with your beta tester and then transfer ownership of the document to edtech@edu.ektu.kz.

2. После чего введите вашу информацию в этот документ.
3. Fill in the section "информация о курсе".
4. Proceed through the "самооценивание курса" checking each page of your course.
   • You will be revising your course as you identify problems.

Beta-tester assessment

The second step is to ask your beta-tester to review your course. Please read the section on the site Партнер, рецензент или бета-тестер? if you are not familiar with beta testing and the role it plays in the development process.

1. Share your self-evaluation Google document with your beta-tester
   • Be sure to give them "Editor" rights to the document

3. Correct any items that your beta-tester identifies

Beta tester, your task is to look at the course from the outside as a learner and give your review on quality control. You perform a critical role because many problems you find are not clear to the course author, such as a document that is not shared correctly. You check the technical part of the course to confirm that everything works, and you also look for unprofessionalism that may distract the learner (course participant). For example, you're looking for misspelled words, incorrectly formatted text, unclear instructions, broken links, videos that don't play, Google docs that aren't published correctly, and so on. You will put your comments in the course author's self-evaluation document. Also, please use the checklist in the same document to help you evaluate the course.

Submit formal evaluation request

The third step is to start the formal evaluation after you and your beta tester have both thoroughly evaluated your course.

2. Please use the form "Запрос на проверку курса Центром образовательных технологий" to request that we formally review your course and certify that it meets the course design standards.
   • You will select a meeting date and a two-hour block (09:00-11:00 or 14:00-16:00) in the form for the formal review where we review your course with you. Unfortunately, time does allow for multiple or longer review sessions.
   • You cannot select a time close to the meeting because we need adequate time to review your course and prepare a list of times before meeting with you. We'll be looking at your course from several perspectives, but primarily through the lens of a learner. We'll also pay close attention to the course's professional feel and completeness.
3. We will share our review findings with you during a meeting in our office and discuss the next steps. We are part of the expert committee.

Faculty expert committee review

Lastly, your department will review the course content from an educational perspective because we are not subject matter experts. The committee will verify that your content is appropriate for the intended audience and meets the desired educational outcomes. They will note any requirements or recommendations in document Форма проверки “Открытых курсов” ВКТУ.

Transfer to open.ektu.kz

Congratulations! Your course will be transferred to https://open.ektu.kz once all expert committee members sign the course validation form.
